description_en: Genus of approximately 30 species of woody-based perennials and evergreen shrubs occurring in forest and scrub in tropical Asia. They are cultivated for their tubular, 5-lobed flowers, which are produced in terminal or axillary spikes or panicles in winter. The leaves are opposite, lance-shaped to broadly ovate, simple, entire or toothed, and often prominently veined. In frost-prone regions, grow in a warm greenhouse or conservatory, or as houseplants. In humid, subtropical climates, they may be grown outdoors and are particularly useful in a lightly shaded border.
