description_en: Genus of 1 or 2 species ofevergreen shrubs and small trees found in scrub on dry, rocky slopes in S.W. USA and Mexico. D. rigida is cultivated for its lance-shaped, simple, leathery, glaucous leaves, arranged alternately along the stems, and for its showy, poppy-like, fragrant flowers. It looks best grown against a wall, but may be grown in a cool greenhouse in cold regions.
