It has zigaag twigs, borne on spreading branches, which produce a small, inversely heart-shaped leafand 2 spines from each node, and a single cyme of small, cup-shaped white flowers in summer. In frost-prone areas, grow D. madagascariensis in a warm greenhouse. In warmer areas, grow at the base of a wall or in a courtyard garden.
