distribution_en:
description_en: Hybrid genus, between Cryptanthus and Billbergia, of rosette-forming, evergreen, terrestrial perennials (bromeliads). The narrowly triangular, arching, olive-green to bronze outer leaves (shading to wine-red in the centre in some variants) are much longer than the inner ones, which tend to form a cup. In summer, cryptbergias usually bear small corymbs of tubular white flowers, with spreading lobes, from the centres of the rosettes. Most offset freely. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse or as foliage houseplants; in warmer climates, grow in a bed or at the front of a border.
hardiness_en: Frost tender.

propagation_en: Remove offsets in spring.
