description_en: Genus of 25 species of erect to spreading, slender-stemmed annuals from open woodland, fields, and low valleys in North America and Mexico. They produce opposite, ovate, oblong, or lance-shaped, sometimes softly hairy leaves. Whorled, asymmetrically 2-lipped, pink, white, blue, or bicoloured flowers are borne in racemes from spring to summer. Grow in an annual or mixed border, or in a wild garden; they provide long-lasting cut flowers.
