They have basal tufts of alternate leaves, 8-15cm (3-6in) long, which are usually entire and hairy. They are grown for their funnel-shaped or salverform, bright blue flowers, borne in erect, terminal cymes on leafy stems in early summer. Grow in a raised scree bed or alpine house.
