They are grown mainly for their small, 5-petalled, fragrant flowers, which are produced in clusters from the upper leaf axils. The alternate leaves vary from ovate to lance-shaped. In frost-prone climates, over-winter in a cool greenhouse. In frost-free areas grow A. flexuosa as an elegant specimen tree; smaller species are effective in a border or against a wall.
