Description en: Genus of 20 species of dioecious, deciduous and evergreen shrubs (some-times mat-forming with runners) and twining, woody climbers, from rocky areas and woodland in New Guinea, Australia, New Zealand, and South America. They are cultivated for their intricate habit, their minute, alternate, linear to rounded leaves (absent in some species), and their tiny, cup-shaped, sweet-scented flowers, produced singly or in pairs, in axillary clusters or spikes, or in terminal or axillary racemes or panicles. The shrubs are suitable for a border, the climbing species for clothing an arch, pergola, or trellis. M. complexa is also useful as ground cover. In frost-prone climates, grow tender species in containers in a temperate greenhouse.
