Description en: Genus of about 50 species of evergreen perennials and subshrubs, some with succulent or partly woody stems, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical Asia, where they grow in forest clearings. Cultivated for their decorative leaves, which are alternate, 2-ranked, linear to rounded, entire or toothed, and heavily marked with silver and bronze. The inflorescences are relatively insignificant. Trailing species are ideal for a hanging basket or as ground cover. In frost-prone areas, grow as houseplants or in a warm greenhouse; elsewhere, grow in a border or under trees and shrubs.
