description_en: Genus of about 25 species of evergreen or semi-evergreen ferns, usually with upright, trunk-like rhizomes or caudices, but occasionally creeping in habit. They are found in sheltered, upland forest in temperate and tropical regions of S.E. Asia, Australasia, and South America. The often massive rhizomes or caudices are usually clothed in old leaf bases and fibrous roots, and crowned with spreading, 2- to 4-pinnate or pinnatifid, leathery fronds. The sori are round and form along the margins of the segments, on the underside, each protected by an indusium. Dicksonia species are fine specimen plants, whether in a cool greenhouse or conservatory, or outdoors in frost-free areas.
