Description en: Genus of about 80 species of deciduous and evergreen, dioecious trees and shrubs occurring in woodland and on riverbanks in E. Asia and North America. They are cultivated for their aromatic, alternate, entire or 3-lobed leaves, which often colour well in autumn on deciduous species, and for their star-shaped flowers, which are borne in axillary umbels, rarely singly, early in the year. Grow in a woodland garden. In frost-prone areas, grow half-hardy species in a cool greenhouse or against a warm wall. Male and female plants need to be planted together in order to bear fruits.
