description_en: Genus, closely related to Scilla, of 3 or 4 species of vigorous, bulbous perennials from deciduous woodland and moist meadoivs in W. Europe and N. Africa. They have strap-shaped to lance-shaped or linear, basal leaves, and bear racemes ofbell- or tubular-bell-shaped, blue or white, sometimes pink flowers in spring. Bluebells are ideal for naturalizing in grass, for a wild or woodland garden, or for underplanting in a shrub border. All parts may irritate skin on contact, and may cause severe discomfort if ingested.
