description_en: Genus of 60-70 species of erect, cormous perennials from dry lowland sand to moist upland areas in southern Africa. Leaves are basal, lance-shaped, linear, or thread-like, and often curled. Flowers are usually funnel-shaped, and are borne in 1- or 2-sided spikes, with leaf-like bracts, in spring. In frost-prone areas, grow at the base of a warm wall with winter protection, or in a temperate greenhouse. In warmer climates, grow in a bed or border.
