Description en: Genus of about 100 species of annuals, perennials, and evergreen or semi-evergreen shrubs. They are widely distributed in the N. hemisphere, with some species in southern Africa, and occur on dry, upland scrub, in moist areas, and among rocks. The variably shaped leaves are alternate, simple, and entire, often with conspicuous parallel veins. Umbels of star-shaped, yellow or green flowers are usually surrounded by involucres of leafy bracts. Grow in a flower border or shrub border. Plant the smaller species in a rock garden.
