description_en: Genus of 3 species of annuals and perennials from rocky places in W., C., and E. Europe, and the Mediterranean. They have hairy stems and simple, alternate, roughly hairy leaves. Nodding blue flowers are produced in branching cymes B. officinalis is a useful plant for dry places. B. pygmaea grows well in gravel or in a rock garden. Both species self-seed freely.
