description_en: Genus of 2-4 species of erect, branching annuals from scrub, stony slopes, and cultivated fields in S. Europe, the Mediterranean, and W. Asia. They have linear, opposite leaves and, in summer, bear usually solitary, 5-petalled, open trumpet-shaped flowers with long-toothed calyces. The stems are slender and covered with a soft down. Grow in a wildflower or cottage garden, or in containers. The flowers are suitable for cutting and are attractive to bees. Seeds may cause severe discomfort if ingested.
