Distribution en: Peru to Bolivia
Description en: Genus of 2 or 3 species of evergreen, opposite-leaved shrubs occurring in dry upland slopes, scrub, and open woodland in subtropical South America. They are cultivated for their attractive, shallowly cup-shaped flowers, which are produced singly from the upper leaf axils in midsummer. In hot climates, edible fruits may also be produced. To obtain fruit in areas where temperatures fall below 5°C (41°F), grow in a cool greenhouse. A. sellowiana is tolerant of salt and drought, and may be used as hedging In mild coastal areas.
