Description en: Genus of 2 or 3 species of evergreen, opposite-leaved shrubs occurring in dry upland slopes, scrub, and open woodland in subtropical South America. They are cultivated for their attractive, shallowly cup-shaped flowers, which are produced singly from the upper leaf axils in midsummer. In hot climates, edible fruits may also be produced.
