description_en: Genus of 30-40 species of evergreen, epiphytic, monopodial orchids found in exposed sites in scrub forest at altitudes of 1,500m (5,000ft) from India to S.E. Asia and the Philippines, and south to Australia. They have stout, simple stems, the tips of which bear 2-ranked, strap-shaped to linear, leathery, semi-rigid, mid-green leaves, often lobed or toothed at the tips. Aerial roots form on the lower part of the stems. The flowers, borne in axillary, occasionally terminal racemes, are often large, showy, and intricately coloured on their sepals, with small lips. A range of richly coloured hybrids is available.
