description_en: Genus of approximately 20 species of rhizomatous perennials from grassy mountainsides, light woodland, and streamsides in Siberia (Russia), N. India, E. Asia, and North America. They are cultivated for their attractive foliage and lupin-like flowers. Erect stems bear alternate, stalked, 3-palmate leaves, some silver-hairy, with persistent, leafy stipules; the similar basal leaves are produced in smaller numbers. Pea-like, yellow or purple flowers, with rounded standard petals and roughly equal-sized keel and wing petals, are borne in terminal or axillary racemes. Suitable for a mixed or herbaceous border, or a wild-flower garden; T. rhombifolia is invasive and best grown in a wild garden. The flowers arc attractive to bees.
