description_en: Genus of about 50 species of evergreen or deciduous shrubs and subshrubs found at forest margins from Mexico and Cuba to Colombia. The pendent, rush-like stems bear opposite or whorled, often scale-like leaves. Showy, tubular, red, pink, or white flowers are borne in axillary cymes, or sometimes singly. R. equisetiformis is the only ft species commonly cultivated. In frost-prone areas, grow as houseplants, in a cool or temperate greenhouse, or in hanging baskets. In warmer climates, grow at the front of a shrub border, or allow to trail over the edges of a raised bed or wall.
