Distribution en: Central & E. U.S.A. to Tropical & Subtropical America, Tropical & Subtropical Asia to Japan and W. Pacific
Description en: Genus of 100 or more species of ever-green and deciduous trees and shrubs found in a variety of habitats, including woodland and scrub, and on stream-banks and rocky outcrops. They occur mainly in tropical regions, including E. Asia, Korea, Japan, and E. USA. Cultivated for their terminal panicles of flowers, which have 4 slender white petals, and for their blue-purple or blue-black fruits, Chionanthus species are attractive specimen plants. They are also suitable for a shrub border. Some plants have only male or only female flowers, and therefore may not produce fruit.
