distribution_en:

description_en: Genus of about 30 species of clump-forming, deciduous perennials (some-times with a few overwintering leaves) with a coarsely fibrous rootstock, found mainly in short turf and alpine meadows in Eurasia and N. America. They are cultivated for their finely dissected, fern-like leaves and their solitary, usually silky-hairy, bell- or cup-shaped flowers, produced in spring and early summer. The flowers are followed by spherical seed heads with silver-silky, plume-like styles, borne on stems that often elongate considerably after flowering; heights given below are for plants in flower. Grow in a rock garden, scree bed, or alpine house. All parts of the plant may cause mild stomach upset if ingested, and, in rare instances, contact with the sap may irritate skin.

hardiness_en: Fully hardy.

cultivation_en:

propagation_en: Sow seed as soon as ripe in containers in an open frame. Take root cuttings in winter.

pests_en: Young growth may be attacked by slugs and snails.
