The toothed leaves are alternate, simple, and pinnate or pinnatifid. The flowerheads, usually borne singly or in corymbs at the tips of the branches, lack ray-florets; they resemble groundsel (Senecio) flowerheads, but are larger and more colourful. Where temperatures fall below 13°C (55°F), grow as houseplants or in a temperate or warm greenhouse. Elsewhere, use in a shady, moist border.
