description_en: Genus of 15 species of hairy or prickly biennials or short-lived perennials from damp grassland and woodland in Europe, N. Africa, and Asia. The simple or pinnatifid, toothed or cut leaves are borne in opposite pairs, with the bases of the upper leaves usually forming a "cup" around each stem. In the second summer, teasels bear cone-shaped flowerheads on long, upright, branching stems. Grow in a wild garden or wild-flower border; the dried flowerheads are good in floral arrangements.
