Asia and the Pacific, including Australasia. The tufted or rosetted, leathery leaves are simple, entire, and lance-shaped to linear. Sweetly scented, shallowly cup-shaped, 6-tepalled flowers, 6-10mm (1/4-1/2in) across, are produced in sometimes large, conspicuous, terminal panicles, followed by spherical, white, red, blue, or purple berries, 3-8mm (1/8-3/8in) across.
