description_en: Genus of 6 species of evergreen shrubs, trees, and perennials from Malaysia and the larger islands in the E. Pacific, found in open forest, thickets, and scrub. They produce attractive, alternate, linear to broadly ovate, simple or shallowly to deeply lobed, leathery, often variegated leaves. Tiny, star-shaped yellow flowers are produced in axillary racemes intermittently throughout summer. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm or temperate greenhouse, or as houseplants. In tropical or subtropical climates, grow in a shrub border, a courtyard garden, or as an informal hedge or screen. Contact with the foliage may aggravate skin allergies.
