description_en: Genus of 7 species of tuberous-rooted perennials from woodland margins in tropical South America. They are grown for their long-stalked, peltate, ovate to elliptic, broadly arrow- or lance-shaped leaves, which are variegated white, pink, or red. The greenish white spathes and spadices with green flowers are followed by white berries. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse; elsewhere, use as specimens in containers. Contact with all parts may irritate skin, and may cause mild stomach upset if ingested.
