description_en: Genus of 6 or 7 species of evergreen, monopodial orchids, often initially terrestrial but becoming epiphytic, from S.E. Asia, New Guinea, and the Philippines, occurring mainly on trees or rocks in wet areas. They are robust plants with long, branching stems, 2-ranked, strap-shaped, thick, fleshy leaves, and axillary racemes of attractive, highly coloured, fragrant flowers. Cultivated mainly in a lath house in tropical regions, where they are grown for use as cut flowers, they require full, year-round sun to flower regularly. In frost-prone areas, grow scorpion orchids in a warm greenhouse. They seldom flower well outside their native areas.
