description_en: Genus of about 36 species of vigorous, mostly slender-stemmed annuals found on dry, open slopes, from sea level to 2,400m (8,000ft), in W. North America and South America. They have oval or linear to elliptic, sometimes toothed leaves. Spreading, funnel-shaped, paper-thin, pastel-coloured flowers, with a satin-like texture, are borne in upright, leafy racemes in summer. Grow in an annual border. Clarkia species and cultivars are also good for cut flowers.
