description_en: Genus of 80-100 species of tufted or clump-forming, often stoloniferous, perennial succulents from dry areas of the Mediterranean, Africa, Socotra, the Arabian Peninsula, India, and Burma. The open bell-shaped, 5-lobed, axillary or terminal flowers, solitary or in umbels, usually exude a pungent odour. The fruits are cylindrical, greyish green follicles containing tufted seeds. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse; in warm, dry climates, use outdoors in a semi-desert garden.
