They are grown for their glaucous foliage and fragrant, showy white flowers. The leaves are alternate, and pinnatifid to pinnatisect; the poppy-like, solitary, terminal, 6-petalled flowers, with bright yellow stamens, are borne in summer. Grow in a border or, in frost-prone areas, against a warm, sunny wall.
