Description en: Diverse genus of about 150 species of annuals, short-lived perennials, and deciduous, semi-evergreen, or evergreen subshrubs, found throughout most of the world, some in pasture, others in dryish, rocky areas. The alternate leaves are simple, palmate, or pinnate. Pea-like flowers, in a range of colours, occur either singly from the leaf axils or in terminal or axillary clusters. Suitable for a variety of sites, including a wild garden, rock garden, or shrub border; trailing species are useful for a hanging basket. In frost-prone areas, grow tender species in a cool greenhouse.
