description_en: Genus of 80-100 species of hairless or softly hairy annuals and perennials, some becoming woody at the bases. They occur on prairies and in woodland in North and Central America, and Mexico. Most have upright stems and produce opposite leaves, which may be either simple and entire, pinnate, or palmate (either palmately lobed or fully divided, 3-palmate). Daisy-like, bright yellow flowerheads are borne on long stalks; they are good for cut flowers, and are attractive to bees. Grow in a sunny annual or herbaceous border. Some cultivars, although perennial, are grown as annuals; most flower freely in their first year from seed.
hardiness_en: Fully hardy to frost tender.
cultivation_en:
propagation_en: Sow seed of annuals in situ, in succession from early spring to early summer; sow perennials in a seedbed in mid-spring.
