description_en: Genus of about 19 species of prostrate or semi-erect, mainly leafless, clump-forming, perennial succulents from hilly lowlands of the Arabian Peninsula, E. Africa, and southern Africa. They have toothed stems, each with 4-6 blunt, warty ribs separated by transverse furrows. Star-shaped, stalked flowers have 5 fleshy lobes, recurved at the tips, and are solitary or produced in clusters at the base of the stems, from late spring to summer. In frost-prone areas, grow in a warm greenhouse; in warmer climates, grow outdoors with other succulents.
