Description en: Genus of about 20 species of evergreen, often spiny shrubs and small trees from dry, open woodland in tropical and subtropical Africa and Asia. Although the flesh of these is edible and used for jam-making, the seeds are poisonous. In frost-prone regions, grow in a cool greenhouse or conservatory. In frost-free areas, grow outdoors in a shrub border, or as hedging.

Cultivation en:
Propagation en: Sow seed at 15-18°C (59-64°F) as soon as ripe or in spring. Root semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
