The crowded, tiny leaves are alternate, opposite, or whorled. The star-shaped, 5-petalled, white to pink, purple, or yellow flowers, are borne singly from the leaf axils, and are often clustered at the branch ends. In frost-prone areas, grow in a cool greenhouse; elsewhere, use in a shrub border or as ground cover.
