説明（英語）: Genus of about 250 species of annuals, perennials, and subshrubs, some of them tuberous or rhizomatous, occurring in usually open and sunny habitats, such as prairies, wasteland, and roadsides, and in open woodland (some species prefer dry sites, others moist). Almost all are from tropical and temperate regions of North, Central, and South America; a few are from S. Europe. The erect or procumbent, square stems have usually opposite, toothed, sometimes lobed to pinnatifid leaves, and bear small flowers in dense, terminal spikes, panicles, cymes, or corymbs, occasionally singly. The flowers, often brightly coloured, are salverform, each with a tubular corolla spreading at the mouth, and slightly 2-lipped, with 2 upper petals and 3 lower ones. Verbenas are long-flowering, but only a few species are fully hardy. There are numerous hybrids, which are ideal for an annual border, for edging, or for growing in containers, including hanging baskets; a few are suitable for a herbaceous border.

病害虫（英語）: Aphids, thrips, and leafhoppers may be a problem, especially in dry conditions. Vulnerable to slug damage. Most verbenas are very susceptible to powdery mildew.
